Ciro Galindo was born on August 29, 1952, in Colombia. Wherever he went, war always found him. His children were recruited by the armies of war; his family was repeatedly displaced; and his wife Anita, an indigenous woman, died of sadness. Foreign to the system, but a victim of the system, Ciro has led a heroic anonymous struggle to live life on his own terms.
After twenty years of friendship, I understood that Ciro’s life sums up the history of Colombia. He is a privileged on-site witness of a war that seems distant and confusing. Ciro and Me narrates Ciro’s journey to meet his past in a quest to rebuild his life and create a future for him and his son.
Like so many Colombians, Ciro is a survivor who after sixty years of fleeing the war, dreams of living in peace and dignity. Synopsis Taken from the Pragda Film Festival site.

When handsome and charismatic Pablo arrives at his affluent family’s house everyone is eagerly awaiting the return of their beloved son, devoted father and caring husband. A seemingly exemplary pillar of Guatemala City’s Evangelical Christian community, Pablo’s announcement that he intends to leave his wife for another man sends shock waves through the family. As Pablo tries to acclimate to his new life in the city’s gay subculture with the liberated Francisco, his ultra-religious family does everything in its power to get their prodigal son back on track, no matter the cost."If Bustamante’s lucid second feature makes it feel as though the world itself is trembling beneath your feet, it’s because this mercilessly grounded film keys into the devilishness of Pablo’s dilemma: Forcing him to choose between himself and his family is the only way to guarantee that he ultimately loses both" (David Ehrlich, Indiewire).

I Am from Chile is the story of Salvador, who moves to London from Chile to study English and travel around Europe at his parents’ expense. He stays with his aunt María (acclaimed Chilean actress Paulina García of Gloria, Illiterate), who makes a rather decent living renting the rooms of her house to other immigrants. But when a financial crisis back home leaves Salvador with no resources of his own, he has no other choice but to make ends meet with the help of María and his roommates (including a Russian drug dealer and his Japanese girlfriend), taking on a series of short-term, and at times, dangerous jobs. Difficult and challenging situations will force Salvador out of his protected bourgeois reality and into the real world. Synopsis Taken from the Pragda Film Festival site.

Agustina and her mother, an extroverted, sociable fashion designer, have just arrived in the small town of Resignación in Argentina. Her mother’s messy love life has caused Agustina to develop a mental block when it comes to boys. Pedro, a teenage “loser”, falls in love with her and gradually manages to chip away at the emotional wall Agustina has erected. Teenage hormones, the popular kids with their motorbikes and gelled-back hair, the bragging about sexual conquests…everything is intentionally exposed in this subtle, intelligent, and entertaining comedy that dares to be different. Guie’dani is dragged to Mexico City by her mother to help in her work as a housekeeper for an upper-middle-class family. There, the subtle psychological subjugation inflicted by the white family functions as a metaphor for the oppression of the old world by the new. Yet, Guie’dani rejects the life of servitude and seeks her own identity through a friendship with another rebellious teen.
A striking contrast to Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma, Guie’dani’s Navel is a unique coming-of-age narrative exploring the racism inflicted on indigenous people in Mexico and the empowerment of a new generation that refuses to accept it silently.
In a star-making performance, Sótera Cruz brings razor-sharp intensity to her portrayal of Guie’dani, a Zapotec girl determined to fight for her dignity. Synopsis Taken from the Pragda Film Festival site.
